Te Ora Naho – FAPE Continues to Support the Fare Aru Project in Mo’orea

On Tuesday, May 26, members of the Tāhei ‘Autī ia Mo’orea federation welcomed representatives of FAPE as well as several donors to the Natura Fund. For the past two years, the federation has benefited from the continued support of FAPE and its partners for the development of the Fare Aru project.

Located in the Opunohu Valley, on the Mara’amu land, the Fare Aru project aims to preserve and promote local biodiversity while passing on cultural knowledge and heritage to younger generations.

Once again this year, a grant of 300,000 XPF was awarded to support the continued development of the project. Visitors had the opportunity to discover the 61 varieties of ‘uru (breadfruit) already planted on the site by members of the federation under the guidance of Léon Harehoe.

They also visited the location of the future Fare Aru, an educational fare primarily intended for schoolchildren and the youth of Mo’orea, where knowledge about heritage and culture will be shared. To commemorate their visit, FAPE members planted a Harare ‘uru tree, generously donated by Mr. Peva Levy, a collector of breadfruit varieties from the commune of Teahupoʻo.

Mr. Raimoana Oitoa, head of the Department of Agriculture (DAG) in Mo’orea, was also present. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss upcoming work on the site, including improvements to the access road, soil enhancement, and the removal of certain trees to encourage the growth of the ‘uru collection.

Māuruuru roa to Te Ora Naho – FAPE and the donors of the Natura Porinetia Fund

The Tāhei ‘Autī ia Mo’orea federation extends its heartfelt thanks to Te Ora Naho – FAPE and to all the companies and partners contributing to the Natura Porinetia Fund. Thanks to their trust and commitment, the Fare Aru project can continue to grow and contribute to the transmission of Mo’orea’s plant heritage and cultural traditions.
