Teavaro residents concerned about planned housing development

While the public inquiry on the project to build 3 residential housing estates on the Paetou site in Teavaro was launched a week ago, local residents of Teavaro and a number of Moorea associations (environmental and cultural) are concerned about the impact of this project on the environment and on the archaeological remains of this land. They met last Monday in Teavaro to express their concerns. A collective called Paetou was formed to decide on future actions. The project in question involves the excavation and construction of 3 allotments of 50 lots, including 10 commercial lots, on the Paetou site in Teavaro (not far from the town hall) over a total surface area of 237,000m². The environmental impact study has been available for consultation since July 24 and will be available until August 24 at the Moorea-Maiao main town hall, the Teavaro annex town hall and the Papeete town planning department. As soon as the public inquiry was launched, a feeling of concern quickly spread among part of the population of the sister island, particularly that of Teavaro. In fact, a public meeting was held on the morning of July 29, 2019 at the Teavaro annex town hall, during which residents of the district, inhabitants of other associated communes and members of a number of cultural and environmental associations were able to express their fears about the project.
