Manutea Lodge – Recorded offences

Right from the start of the work by SARL Manutea Lodge in Pihaena at the end of April 2024, the FTAIM paid particular attention to this project, which would have a major impact on the landscape and the environment. A number of infringements were quickly observed and an appeal against the building permit was lodged on the grounds that no environmental impact study had been carried out prior to the work. The work had started 4 months before planning permission was granted, and the application file contained false statements about the actual project and the scale of the work to be carried out.

It also quickly became apparent that the location of the project in a medium-risk zone, with a slope approaching 50%, had not been taken into account, and that no prior geotechnical assessment had been carried out as required by the regulations. Lacking the necessary information, the work was not carried out as it should have been, and the first landslide, which was likely to get worse, started in mid-April. The position of the Department of Construction and Planning, which continued to assert a few days before the landslide that the structures were stable, now appears to be totally erroneous.

The succession of breaches of the regulations has led to serious environmental damage, serious and irreversible degradation of the landscape, and the endangerment of local residents, which has been noted by the local authority. This situation has led us to lodge a complaint with the public prosecutor in order to put a stop to these offences, identify those responsible and punish them. In particular, the aim is to raise public awareness and prevent such a situation from recurring.
